Playing Catch Up

So, as usual, it's been awhile since I've posted. I've been really caught up with work, and trying to juggle everything else. You know, the same old sob story.

Anyway, Gabriel is really growing. I've found that he is absolutely all boy. He tires easily of his toys at home, but put him outside, and he can play in the dirt all day. I'm not too keen on him sitting in the dirt, so I thought that a sandbox might be fun for him to have at home. It doesn't quite keep his attention like nice, free dirt, but it works. baby 089

Easter was nice. The family had church in the morning, and then we met at my parents' for lunch. The past handful of years, we've spent Easter at Kevin's parents' house for lunch, but this year they were in the mountains. Mom and Dad had quite a spread for the 4 1/2 of us, but after a couple more days, nothing went to waste. Following lunch, I finally had time to sit Gabriel down to show him what the Easter Bunny had brought for him. baby 096
I considered hiding his Easter eggs, but I don't think we've quite gotten to that point yet. For now, he was content to bounce them across the floor and declare, "Ball!" Sure, for now, we'll call it a ball.

Kevin and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary, and then a week and a half later, Kevin celebrated his 43rd birthday. My parents were nice enough to keep Gabriel on both of those Friday nights, so that we could go out and sleep in. I've finally loosened up some on leaving Gabriel overnight. It's nice to be able to get out of the house and feel like a normal human being again.

Cooper River Bridge Run 2007

Well, I finally made it onto the bridge. I told myself I would run the first bridge run right after having Gabriel, but who was I fooling? Having a baby in February, and running a 10k 2months later was an absolutely ridiculous goal. Obviously, little did I know how worn out my mind and body would be as a new mother.

Now that he's a year old, I was determined to get onto the bridge this year, and I did. Thank goodness. Okay, so perhaps not any spectacular records being broken, but I was out there doing something I enjoyed for ME, and for once, I'm beginning to feel human. I'm beginning to feel more like me again.

I don't know if I'm going to keep up with running as the weather heats up. If I continue to run the bridge, that will mean I'll have to get up earlier to attempt to beat the sun up there. Once the sun is up, you'd better be off that thing, or at least pretty close to being done. Otherwise, I would imagine it's torture. I'm not sure how long I will stay committed to this, but time will tell.
